The First Job

This past summer, Dashawn’s mom told him that if he didn’t want to cut the grass, he had to do something productive with his time. She urged him to join the Boys and Girls Club’s Summer Work Program that placed youth aged 14-18 in paying positions.

So, Dashawn left the lawn behind and started a Youth Coordinator position at the Reeb Center on Columbus’s South Side – his first ever job.

How do we get a foot in the working world and what do we learn once we get there? That’s the focus of this episode, where we get into first jobs and the soft skills they teach us.
